Cape Town - SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter has praised his players for showing character to finish the season better than they started.
Matsatsantsa had a horrendous first-half of the season which culminated in the sacking of Gordon Igesund as coach.
Since replacing Igesund at the beginning of the year, Baxter has brought back the winning feeling to the Premiership club.
The players have bounced back to secure a top-eight finish and a place in the Nedbank Cup final, where they will face Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
"Obviously coming mid-season is not perfect. Coming mid-season to a squad of players that was probably deflated, a little bit disillusioned and under pressure," Baxter told KickOff.
"It's not easy to hear when you guys (journalists) are saying they should be doing better than they are, they should be doing better than they are, and yet you know you are not doing better than you should.
"So that's not an easy situation and I didn't rumble about it, I just get on with the job and the players just got on with the job and I think we shouldn't underestimate the work they've done, the importance of their attitude in resurrecting their season."
