Baroka FC chairperson Khurishi Mphahlele says the Absa Premiership club needs to release staff in a bid to "balance the books" but won't sell their best players.

Premier Soccer League clubs are starting to feel the pinch of inactivity after two months without competitive action.

There remains no clear indication as to when the PSL will be able to resume, although talks are ongoing over a possible solution to complete the 2019/20 campaign.

Baroka have already released Kamogelo Mogaswa, Ranga Chivaviro, Mogau Khwinana and Tebogo Sodi but will be mindful to retain the services of their best players, says Mphahlele.

He told TimesLive: "At the moment we are financially fine. We won't sell our best players after coronavirus.

"We will balance our books by not renewing the contracts of under-utilised players, whose contracts expire at the end of the season.

"At this stage, the only expense we have is salaries, so our situation is better. We are hoping it won't change for the worst."
