Baroka too hot for Chilli Boys in Nedbank Cup

Cape Town - National First Division league leaders Baroka FC pulled off a major upset when they beat Chippa United 3-2 in the last-32 of the Nedbank Cup at the Buffalo City Stadium.

Baroka came into the game full of confidence off the back of their strong performances in the National First Division this season and it showed as they took the game to Chippa United in the opening minutes of the game.

Baroka rewarded for their expansive play when Jacky Motshegwa scored around the half hour mark as he struck a free kick hard and low under a feeble Chippa wall.

The NFD side stunned the hosts when they doubled their advantage just two minutes later as Loyiso Simandla put the ball past Daniel Akpeyi in the Chippa goal.

Andile Mbenyane pulled a goal back for the home side just before the halftime break as Baroka went into the interval with a one-goal lead.

However, Motshegwa restored the two-goal advantage for the visitors not long after the resumption of the second half as the Baroka sensed a potential historic upset.

Rhulani Manzini kept Chippa in the game when he pounced on an error from the visiting goalkeeper and put the ball in the back of the net to bring the score to 3-2.

The Premiership side started to apply pressure on their lower-league opponents as they chased the equaliser but Baroka held out to secure a famous win and book their place in the last-16 of the Nedbank Cup.
