Cape Town - Baroka FC moved off the foot of the Absa Premiership table after a nervy 1-0 victory over Polokwane City in a Limpopo derby played at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.
The only goal of the game came as early as the second minute when Ranga Chivaviro converted a penalty after Polokwane defender Mpho Mvelase fouled Richard Mbulu in the box.
Rise and Shine though gradually came back into the contest with forward Charlton Mashumba denied by some desperate defending by the Bakgaga defence.
Themba Chauke then had an opportunity to equalise but his header was cleared off the line.
Baroka had a glorious chance to double their lead five minutes before the halftime break but Mbulu headed over bar when it looked easier to score from four yards out.
Polokwane were by far the better side after interval but they found an inspired Elvis Chipezeze in the Baroka goal.
The home team's shot-stopper denied Mohammed Anas after tipping the forward's shot over the bar and then produced a great save from Kenneth Nthatheni's header from point-blank range.
Baroka had some opportunities on the counter-attack to add to their lead but in the end the one goal was enough for them to pick up a vital three points as they continue their fight against relegation.
