Baroka FC stun Golden Arrows in Nedbank Cup

Cape Town - Golden Arrows exited the Nedbank Cup after a surprise 2-0 loss to NFD side Baroka FC at Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Arrows started positively and almost took the lead in the sixth minute when a strike from the edge of the box by Nduduzo Sibiya struck the upright.

Ten minutes Baroka were on the attack, but Arrows goalkeeper Ricardo Goss was at his best to parry an effort from Mfundhisi Chauke around the post.

Baroka began to find their footing in the game and earned a penalty on the stroke of half time when Donald Mokondelela was brought down inside the box by Musa Bilankulu.

Kenoshi Motshegwa stepped up to the spot, but saw his initial effort saved by Gross. Unfortunately, for Arrows Motshegwa was quickest to the rebound and slotted the ball home, 1-0.

Arrows came out positively in the second half and nearly found the equaliser in the 56th minute, by Mhango saw his effort from just inside the box brilliantly saved by the Baroka goalkeeper.

In the 74th minute some quick counter-attacking play from Baroka resulted in them finding their second goal courtesy of a clinical strike by Loyiso Simandla, 2-0.

Arrows tried to find their way back into the game, but Baroka held on for the win and a place in the quarterfinals of the cup competition.
