Cape Town - Baroka FC have given the captain's armband to Gerald Phiri Jnr after relieving midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane of the responsibility.
Mdantsane has struggled for form in recent games and, with reports emerging that he could be leaving the club at the end of the season, Baroka have opted to give the captaincy to Phiri instead.
"Gerald Phiri Jnr is now club captain," Baroka spokesperson Richard Mashabane revealed to KickOff.
"We were looking for someone with experience and felt Phiri Jnr was the right candidate to lead the team now.
"There is nothing wrong with him [Mdantsane], the club decided him to take the pressure away from him so he can concentrate on playing football."
Bakgakga will resume their season at home against Golden Arrows on 27 November, after the international break, as they aim to move out of the bottom half of the Premiership standings.
