Cape Town - Baroka FC and Chippa United had to settle for a 1-1 draw in a scrappy relegation fight at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The point does neither team any good as they strive to beat the drop at the end of the season, but the Chilli Boys will be the happier of the sides as they earned a valuable point away from home.
In a first-half of little chances, Chippa had the best opening when Gladwin Shitolo sent a header wide in front of an open net after Rhulani Manzini's powerful free-kick was saved by goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze.
The visitors seemed to come out after the interval with more intent and Tercious Malepe forced an impressive save out of Chipezeze with an effort from well outside the box.
Baroka coach Wedson Nyirenda brought on Tebogo Sodi hoping to spark his team into life and the forward immediately brought a different dimension upfront that gave the Chippa defence some problems.
The home side upped the tempo and Ranga Chivaviro had a header saved by Chippa keeper Mbongeni Mzimela on the hour mark.
Bakgaga were rewarded for their efforts when Matome Mabeba hit a superb curling shot past Chipezeze with 20 minutes of the remaining.
However, the Chilli Boys hit back almost immediately from the kick off when Baroka's Bonginkosi Makume turned Shitolo's cross from the right into his own net.
Shitolo had one last effort to win it for the team from Port Elizabeth but his shot was saved by Chipezeze.
As a result, Chippa are still in 14th place on the table, only ahead of Free State Stars on goal difference, while Baroka are one point and one place ahead of their opponents.
