Cape Town - Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker gave his players the highest praise as they pulled off a stunning upset to beat Orlando Pirates at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
Iqraam Rayners scored in the first half as Stellies held on for a famous 1-0 victory over the Soweto giants.
The Cape Winelands club had to hold firm in defence in the second half and Barker lauded his players for the character and fight they are showing in their first season in the top-flight.
Barker told SuperSport TV after the match: "To come and play in a beautiful Cape Town Stadium against a big team like Orlando Pirates, to put the effort and get the positive results, it's really massive.
"I just want to give credit to the players they work hard each and every day and the rewards, you can see the effort they put in there, the commitment.
"If you keep on working and show that sort of attitude and work ethic, then you just have to be happy for the lads."
Stellies will now travel to KwaZulu Natal for a midweek clash against AmaZulu at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
Kick-off is at 19:30.
