Cape Town - Lenox Bacela returned to training on Tuesday after missing game time at the weekend and is in contention to play for the University of Pretoria when they host high flying Mpumalanga Black Aces at home on Sunday.
Bacela was to go for a scan on Monday to see the extent of a possible hamstring injury that kept him out of weekend action but in the end had an injection instead, said coach Sammy Troughton.
“He trained with no ill effects and looks fine. I don’t think it’s a big problem.”
The University of Pretoria striker missed the derby match against Absa Premiership front-runners Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday night, which his side lost 2-1 at Atteridgeville.
Troughton explained then that Bacela had complained of a hamstring strain ahead of the encounter, after playing last Wednesday night for AmaTuks when they lost 2-0 to Orlando Pirates, and that is why he missed the encounter against Sundowns .
The 32-year-old joined the struggling AmaTuks at the beginning of the season after being released by Orlando Pirates. He has scored a single goal for his new club in seven starts in the league this campaign.
Bacela also previously played at Santos and Bloemfontein Celtic.
