Arrows triumph in KZN derby

Cape Town - Golden Arrows produced a thoroughly professional display to beat Maritzburg United 3-1 in the last-32 round of the Nedbank Cup at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Abafana Besthende took the lead midway through the first half when influential winger Kudakwashe Mahachi delivered a whipped free kick that found Sibusiso Sibeko in the area - to head home at the far post.

Route one football resulted in Arrows taking a two goal advantage on the half hour mark. Nkanyiso Mngwengwe's raking pass set Lerato Lamola on goal and the 30-year-old striker turned and finished with a perfectly timed left-footed volley.

Clinton Larsen's men took a resounding three goal lead in the 38th minute when the tireless Mahachi slotted the ball passed Virgil Vries, after Nduduzo Sibiya did well to pick out the Zimbabwe international.

The Team of Choice pulled a goal back in the 65th minute as substitute Devon Saal found Lebohang Maboe in the box and the striker toe poked the ball past goalkeeper Nkosingiphile Gumede - for a mere consolation.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
