Cape Town - Polokwane City fought back from an early goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against Golden Arrows at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Golden Arrows took the game to Polokwane City from the get-go and had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the fifth minute after being awarded a penalty.

Siboniso Conco was brought down by Simphiwe Hlongwane inside the box, but Limbikani Mzava's spot-kick was well saved by George Chigova to his left.

Clinton Larsen's side did make the most of the resulting corner, however, as Danny Venter's delivery was met by Mngwengwe, who directed a header past Chigova to open the scoring.

In the 15th minute, Lerato Lamola found space just outside the box and decided to let fly, but his shot flew over the crossbar.

After a challenging few minutes, Rise and Shine settled and started to create a few chances of their own, but nothing which really troubled Nkosingiphile Gumede in the home goal.

That all changed in the 41st minute when Mohamed Anas played in Ramagalela on goal and the striker took one touch before slotting past Gumede.

Arrows had the first chance at goal in the second half. Eight minutes after the restart, Wayde Jooste fired a thunderous effort which took a deflection off a crowd of City defenders and rattled the bar.

Abafana Bes'thende went agonisingly close again moments later. This time it was Knox Mutizwa whose shot hit the post.

The visitors were defending deep and allowing the KZN outfit to come at them. In the 75th minute, Conco did well to get to the byline and cut the ball back for Jooste, whose shot went wide of goal.

The team from Limpopo almost stole the points in the final minute of the game, but Arrows survived the late scare. Anas, who was clean through on goal, somehow fired off target.
