Arrows debutants receives Komphela's praise

Cape Town - Golden Arrows coach Steve Komphela has praised the impact made by his debutants in the 1-0 victory over Maritzburg United on Sunday.

Komphela handed starts to new signings Edmore Sibanda, Ntako Makhubela and Lindokuhle Mtshali, who were all making their first appearances in the South African top-flight.

The Abafana Bes'thende mentor shared what he believes each player brings to the team and highlighted their individual strengths.

"Our debutants I thought did extremely well, they never showed any sign of coming from lower divisions, which tells you about the quality of that division and the quality those players have," Komphela said.

"Gumede was very calm, good use of the ball gets in front of the defenders, useful in the air, can play on the ground, has the physical side and a great personality.

"Mtshali can see spaces, very intelligent, reads where the spaces are, and also Makhubela is more of a fantastic player who you would want anytime. When they want to have fun, he gives you that, he can chase the ball, and it's rare to find such a player who is good on and off the ball. In the air, he can keep the ball and strike too.

"We must give credit to Arrows for identifying these players."

Komphela also hailed the contribution of Gladwin Shitolo, who is on loan from Orlando Pirates.

"Shitolo showed his experience both in defence and midfield. There was no shakiness, he brought calm and Sibande also came through in my opinion, dealt with aerial balls very well."

Arrows' next game is against Bloemfontein Celtic at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Sunday.
