Cape Town - Golden Arrows moved clear at the top of the Premiership table despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Chippa United at the Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu on Saturday.
Despite their struggles this season, the Chilli Boys looked the livelier of the two sides throughout. The energetic Kurt Lentjies had the first real opening after 12 minutes when he broke away through midfield and fired a good low shot that was deflected wide for a corner by the scrambling home defence.
The response was a quick one from the hosts as Kudakwashe Mahachi spun and shot over the bar.
Just before the half hour, Lentjies again caused some panic in the home box, but his crosses were wasted by Katlego Mashego and Moeketsi Sekola.
Before the break. Lerato Lamola saw his 12-yard shot blocked low down by Daniel Akpeyi, while Lentjies dribbled past two Abafana Bes’thende defenders before being let down by a poor final shot.
It was goalless at the break, but it did not stay that way too much longer with Mashego putting the visitors in front when his free-kick from the edge of the box was curled through the wall and beyond a stranded Nkosingiphile Gumede.
Arrows were level 11 minutes later – Knox Mutizwa launching himself to get onto the end of a Siphelele Magubane cross.
With time running out, Gumede was twice forced to scurry off his line and clear the danger, with Mahachi also having an opportunity to win it at the death when he failed to connect with Wayde Jooste’s cross as the sides settled for a share of the spoils.
