Arendse content to be squad player for Sundowns

Cape Town - Veteran defender Wayne Arendse says he doesn't have a problem with being a rotation option for Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane.

The former Santos centre-back has only started five out of 18 Absa Premiership games so far this season, with Motjeka Madisha and Mosa Lebusa the preferred combination in the heart of the Masandawana defence.

However, the 35-year-old insists he is happy to fill that role for the team because everyone needs to be pulling in the same direction to help the club.

"Obviously, I haven't been playing as much as I'd like to. The coach (Pitso Mosimane), when he rotates, he feels who needs to play certain games. But I am very happy to contribute even if I am coming from the bench," Arendse told SowetanLIVE.

"When he (Mosimane) calls me, I am always ready to play. We have a lot of players and there'll be suspensions and injuries.

"You just need to be ready while you are supporting the ones who are playing because it's all about the team."

With Sundowns still battling for silverware in three competitions, Arendse may well get a start in the Nedbank Cup, where the Brazilians will take on SuperSport United at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

He added: "We want to win every competition we participate in. With the squad we have, I believe we can manage to also give our best in the Nedbank Cup as we are also vying for the Champions League and the domestic league title."
