AmaZulu sack Cavin Johnson

TOUGH TIMES: Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson.

Cape Town - Cavin Johnson's time as head coach of Amazulu has come to an end as he was sacked by the KZN club on Monday.

Usuthu have not had the best of starts to the Absa Premiership season having only collected two points from their first five games and sit dead last on the PSL table.

Johnson was under pressure heading into last weekend's KZN derby against Golden Arrows but his team fought back from goal down to force a 1-1 draw in what will be the coach's last game in charge.

Johnson has held the Amazulu coaching hot seat since August 2017 and guided Usuthu to a ninth place finish in his first season in charge.

The club placed 11th at the end of the last campaign while no wins in the first five matches this season left the Amazulu board with no choice but to give Johnson the sack.

Amazulu's General Manager Lunga Sokhela said in a club statement: "We wish Mr. Johnson the best of luck in his career.

"The next focus for the club will be towards getting back on track since results have eluded us so far this season."

Usuthu's next game will be against Kaizer Chiefs at the King Zwelithini Stadium on September 24.
