AmaZulu, Maritzburg play to bore draw

Cape Town - AmaZulu and Maritzburg United played to a 0-0 draw in an Absa Premiership encounter and a KZN derby at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.

Maritzburg were looking the more assured of the two sides in the opening stages and had the first opportunity of the match after just three minutes. Keagan Buchanan swung in a corner from the left and Bongokuhle Hlongwane met it at the near post but his header was just over the bar.

Eric Tinkler's side probably should have a penalty in the 10th minute when Mario Booysen trod on Hlongwane in the box but the referee penalised the attacker for diving.

Jabulani Ncobeni had the first shot of the match for the hosts but it went over the bar. In the 28th minute, Siyethemba Sithebe unleashed a powerful strike at goal but it went just wide of the right-hand upright.

Neither side managed to trouble the opposition goalkeeper until the 75th minute.

Judas Moseamedi laid it off for Thabiso Kutumela but the striker scuffed his effort wide. Two minutes later, Deolin Mekoa found Kutumela in the box but the striker's acrobatic effort went just over the bar.

In the 82nd minute, the Team of choice came close once again and AmaZulu were lucky not to be behind. This time around, Moseamedi controlled the ball and fired a volley from inside the box but the keeper held on well.

But in the end, neither side could be separated as they played to a bore draw.
