Amazulu ease relegation fears with win over SuperSport

Cape Town - Amazulu eased their own relegation fears and also dashed the faint title hopes of the visitors as they beat Supersport United 2-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday.

Both goals were scored in the second half as Bongani Ntuli netted in the 54th minute and Somila Ntsundwana sealed the victory deep into injury time.

Matsatsantsa had the first opportunity to score in the game when Bradley Grobler failed to beat Usuthu keeper Siyabonga Mbatha after a flick-on from Mxolisi Macuphu.

Mbatha was stubborn in goal for the hosts as he made a couple of fine saves towards the end of the half to keep the scores level at the break.

Amazulu came out with more purpose after the interval and took the lead when Ntuli finished off a beautiful team move that resulted in the forward calmly slotting past Ronwen Williams in the Supersport goal.

Matsatsantsa pushed for the equaliser but Mbatha again came up trumps again when he denied Evan Rusike while Clayton Daniels blazed over the bar.

With the visitors throwing everything into attack, Usuthu caught them on the counter-attack as Ntsundwana pounced on a defensive lapse to make the points safe for the home side.

Supersport are now officially out of the title race as they find themselves 10 points behind log leaders Orlando Pirates with only three games to play while Amazulu stay 11th in the standings but crucially move six points clear of the relegation playoff place.
