Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs defeated Platinum Stars 1-0 in an Absa Premiership encounter at the FNB Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides enjoyed a fair share of the ball early on, with Philani Zulu firing wide after connecting to a Joseph Molangoane delivery.

Riyaad Norodien then picked up the ball on the half-way line and aimed a shot at the Chiefs goal that Itumeleng Khune dealt with, with ease.

Ryan Moon should have done better with a header on 25 minutes that he failed to get on target, before another good headed chance that he placed wide.

Leonardo Castro forced Mbongeni Mzimela to tip his 32nd shot minute wide of his goal while he also smashed wide a chance with the half drawing to a close and Amakhosi very much on top.

Chiefs though were soon a goal to the good, just five minutes after the break, as Hendrick Ekstein arrived in the box to meet a Molangoane ball, and fire home.

Wangu Gome was off target as Stars looked to respond, while Willard Katsande came within inches of connecting to a 64th minute corner.

Katsande was again in with a chance moments later but saw his close-range shot well blocked and while Stars came more into the game with the clock ticking down, they left themselves too little time to impact the result.
