Ajax hopeful over Lartey permit

Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town coach Roger De Sa is trying to speed up the process to obtain a work permit for Lawrence Lartey in order to register him with the PSL.

The 21-year-old defender joined the Urban Warriors last month from Ashanti Gold in his homeland, but has not received the necessary paperwork to clear him to play for his new club.

De Sa is desperate to file Lartey as an Ajax player before the January 15 deadline for CAF Confederation Cup registration, with his side coming up against Angolan club GD Sagrada Esperança in the preliminary round.

"We are still waiting [for his permit]," De Sa told reporters.

"Any day it could happen. It's just one of those things, but he knows that, he's got to just keep ticking and be ready. As soon as it comes through, he'll be available to play.

"I'm hoping we'll get the permit before the 15th of January, because that's the cut-off date for Africa.

"So we are trying to speed things up so we can register him as a PSL player before the 15th of January to make him eligible to play in the CAF competition.

"We are going to need another defender for sure, so we are trying to get him registered and ready for that."
