Ajax forced to play home game in Joburg

Cape Town - The unavailability of a stadium means Ajax Cape Town will play their home match against Chippa United at the Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg.

Earlier this week it was announced that Cape Town City's home match against Maritzburg United, scheduled for next week Tuesday, was to be moved to the Princess Magogo Stadium outside of Durban as the two usual options, the Cape Town Stadium and Athlone Stadium, were both unavailable.

The Cape Town Stadium is being used for the rugby Sevens Tournament, while the Athlone Stadium pitch has rapidly deteriorated due to overuse and the drought affecting the Mother City.

"It is with great regret that due to matters beyond our control we as Ajax Cape Town, the premier club in the Mother City, have to move our upcoming home game against Chippa United - scheduled for Saturday 09 December 2017 - to Bidvest Stadium, in Johannesburg," Ajax announced on their website.

"We'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Bidvest Wits and Wits University for availing their ground at the eleventh hour for our use. It is highly appreciated."

The Urban Warriors are already scheduled to play Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium on December 6, three days before their match against Chippa United, who had themselves battled to find a home ground in Cape Town before deciding to relocate to Port Elizabeth three seasons ago.
