Absa Premiership title race is 'wide open' says Hunt

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt says that Kaizer Chiefs will have to work hard to secure the 2019/20 Absa Premiership title.

Amakhosi entered the enforced break and 21-day lockdown as a result of the coronavirus on top of the league standings, four points ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns, and 10 points clear of sixth-placed Wits.

It is as yet unclear when the PSL will be able to resume, but Hunt feels any momentum the top side may have built up will be wiped out by the club's inactivity.

He stressed though that the same has to be said of Wits, who were gaining ground up the standings.

Whether the league continues behind closed doors, is shortened or condensed with teams forced to play multiple games a week, all considerations will be made to ensure a fair outcome for teams.

And Hunt, who can't wait to get back to action, feels it is anyone's game. He told KickOff: "I think it's wide open, I think this break hasn't helped teams like Sundowns and us. I don’t care what people say, 'Oh, it's good for us (to have a break)’ – no.

"We were in momentum, we were going. We were playing and I think it would have been great for us and a team like Sundowns because we're in the mix man, we were rolling.

"The last, I would say, three or four games, we were coming up. Sure, we went through a bad patch, we drew and lost games, but we were coming, I could see it.

"We became much more fluid and better, you know. And when it stopped was the week we had to play Chiefs and (Orlando) Pirates in three days, I mean it’s unbelievable, but I was looking forward to it. I always say, 'Bring it on!'"
