Abondo poised for Ajax move - reports

Cape Town - Kenyan midfielder Victor Ali Abondo is set to sign for Ajax Cape Town, if reports coming out of east Africa are true.

Abondo, who is on the books of Kenyan Champions Gor Mahia, has allegedly signed a two-year contract, although Ajax have made no mention of the deal.

But according to quotes attributed to Abondor on the Soka25east website, the player is confident that the move will happen.

"I am only waiting for my work permit before I travel back to South Africa over the weekend. I am happy things went so well and I can’t wait to play for my new team," he was quoted as saying.

Ajax are currently ninth in the Premier Soccer League standings, the Cape team having failed to match the form they showed last season.

The club have just announced the signing of Chippa United and Zimbabwe defender Erick Chipeta, while the likes Masilake Phohlongo, Darren Johnson and Sirgio Kammies have been promoted from the Urban Warriors' academy.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
