Zwane looks to Chiefs blueprint

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Themba Zwane, feels much can be learnt from the manner in which Kaizer Chiefs claimed the Premiership title last term.

Amakhosi weren't the most prolific side in the division last season, but it was rather their defence that proved the most crucial aspect of their title winning campaign.

Looking back on Downs' failed title charge last season and their performances in the second half of the campaign, Zwane told Soccer Laduma: "We started winning our games late but, by then, Kaizer Chiefs had already opened up a huge gap and it was difficult for us to catch them.

"If you look at Chiefs' record they won most of their games by a one-nil margin.

"They didn't score a lot of goals, but when they were in the driving seat, they didn't let their grip on their lead slip. They soldiered on until the last whistle to earn the three points on offer."

Downs finished the 2014/15 season in second place, 12 points behind title-winning Chiefs.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
