Cape Town - Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Philani Zikalala is ready to make the step up and fill the void left by the late Senzo Meyiwa.
The 31-year-old was the Buccaneers' third-choice 'keeper behind Meyiwa and Brighton Mhlongo since his arrival from AmaZulu at the beginning of the season.
He has been a regular in the Diski Challenge for Pirates, but has welcomed the opportunity to be drafted into the first-team set-up to compete directly with Mhlongo.
"It's up to us now. He set the bar high, and it's up to us to take it even higher," Zikalala told Goal.com.
"It's not going to be easy for any goalkeeper to do that, but that's the least we can do."
Bucs return to action on Tuesday, November 4, against Platinum Stars, after their Soweto derby clash against Kaizer Chiefs was called off to mourn Meyiwa's passing.
