Wits target Dikwena scalp

Cape Town - Platinum Stars and Bidvest Wits will battle for three Absa Premiership points at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Stars played to their first away draw of the season when they held log leaders Kaizer Chiefs 2-2 in midweek.

The Rustenburg side has claimed eight points from five home matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Chippa United (home), Free State Stars (away) and Black Aces (home).

Dikwena are placed 12th on the PSL log with 15 points from 13 matches.

Wits racked up a second successive win and a fourth from their last five league matches when they defeated Ajax Cape Town 4-2 in midweek.

The Johannesburg side has claimed 10 points from seven away matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are SuperSport United (home), University of Pretoria and Maritzburg United (both away).

The Clever Boys are placed second on the Premiership log with 26 points from 15 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Stars and Wits have met in 20 league matches since 2003/04.

The teams’ record is dead even: seven wins apiece, six draws and 20 goals scored each.

Stars have won five of the 10 home matches they have had against Wits, suffering two defeats in the process.

Last season the Clever Boys took four points off Dikwena, drawing 0-0 in Rustenburg before claiming a 1-0 win in Johannesburg.

Kick-off is at 15:30 on Sunday, December 14.
