Wits switch focus to PSL

Johannesburg - Following their MTN8 elimination over the weekend, Bidvest Wits veteran striker Christopher Katongo says the Clever Boys have accepted their defeat and are now switching their focus to the Absa Premiership.

Wits lost 3-1 to the Buccaneers on the second leg of the Wafa-Wafa competition in an entertaining game played at the Orlando stadium on Saturday.

The aggregate score finished 5-1 after the Soweto giants defeated the Students 2-0 in their first leg clash two weeks ago.

The Zambian international hinted that his team-mates will be looking to bounce back in style when they return to Premiership football this week.

Despite joining the Clever Boys late in the pre-season, the 31-year-old forward said he is feeling much fitter and he intends to make his presence felt at his new club.

“The game was played on a high tempo,” Katongo said.

“You could see how Pirates were doing on the counter attacks.

“We had our chances but we lost, it happens in football.

“Now that we lost, we just want to switch our focus to the league matches.

“League matches are most important for us right now.

“I am feeling much fitter now and I hope to contribute a lot to the team.

“We have been training together since the pre-season.

“We need to do well in the league and we need to change our mentality.”

Wits will host Moroka Swallows in their next league game at the Bidvest stadium on Friday night.

Kick-off is at 20:00.
