Wits sack coach Roger de Sa

Johannesburg - Wits have parted ways with coach Roger de Sa after five years at the helm, according to a statement released by the Premiership club on Monday evening.

De Sa, who also doubled as the side's chief executive over the previous two seasons, will be replaced by his long-time assistant Eric Tinkler.

The former Bafana Bafana player will be assisted by Ashley Makhanya, who had a playing stint with the Clever Boys.

"Wits Football Club hereby wish to announce that it has parted ways with Head Coach, Roger de Sa, with immediate effect," read the release from current chief executive, Jose Ferreira.

Ferreira joined Wits two months ago having served as commercial manager at SuperSport United.

"A full press release will be issued in the next few days in this regard.

"Eric Tinkler and Ashley Makhanya will serve the club as interim coaches pending the appointment of a new technical team."

De Sa - a former goalkeeper with Moroka Swallows, Wits and Bafana - led a youthful Wits outfit to the Telkom Knockout final last season.

He also led the team to the Nedbank Cup title in 2010 - their first domestic trophy in 15 years.

De Sa last week made headlines when he failed to appear at the Randburg Magistrates' Court to answer claims of abuse and violence directed at his ex-wife Nicole Henderson and her new boyfriend Deon van Rensburg.
