Wits not chasing trophies

Johannesburg - Bidvest Wits goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs said the team will not be pressurised into winning silverware in the 2014/15 season following their tremendous performance last season which saw them finish in third position in the league.

The Cape Town-born shot stopper believes the Clever Boys' ambition will be to do well in each and every league game they will play as they aim for another Top 8 finish.

Wits will open their Absa Premiership campaign against SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

“We are looking forward to a new season,” said Josephs.

“We won’t be chasing anything next season.

“We will be just doing our normal thing of staying in the Top 8 and take it from there.

“We have a good squad and we want to be more competitive in each and every league game.

“We are also in the semi-finals of the MTN8 which is good for the team.

“But we also have a tough opening game against SuperSport United.

“That’s where our focus is at the moment.”

Heading to this weekend's clash, the Clever Boys are coming off a 4-3 win on penalties over Bloemfontein Celtic, after a goalless draw after 90 minutes, in their MTN8 quarter-final.

From their point of view, Matsatsantsa are coming off a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates at the same stage of the competition last weekend.

A defeat for United will pile more misery on head coach Cavin Johnson whose job is believed to be in jeopardy following a disappointing last season.

Kick-off is scheduled for 20:15.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
