Williams sidelined after op

Cape Town - SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams is facing up to seven weeks on the sidelines after undergoing an operation on the facial injury he sustained against Bidvest Wits last week.

The shot stopper was involved in a heavy collision with Sameehg Doutie which left the former Bafana Bafana Under-20 ace needing to immediately be rushed to hospital with a cheek injury.

Williams has since undergone a successful operation and is facing a lengthy recovery period, although he should be back in time for the resumption of the Premier Soccer League, which is on break until February due to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Matsatsantsa goalkeeper coach Alex Hereida confirmed the news, telling Kick Off: "He (Williams) is set to be out for the next six or seven weeks."

SuperSport ended the first-half of the Premiership season on a high on Sunday after seeing off Chippa United 2-1 to leave them 11th in the standings, just two points adrift of the top eight.
