Were's AmaZulu exit falls through

Cape Town - Fans of Kenyan Premier League side Gor Mahia will have to wait six months before seeing Paul Were in the famous kit after his proposed move from AmaZulu failed to materialise.

The Kenya international agreed a switch from South Africa's PSL to the Kenyan Premier League on transfer deadline day and has since been awaiting his International Transfer Certificate to seal the deal.

However, the forward's application was made too late, with FIFA declining the transfer, leaving Were in footballing limbo.

Kenyan Football Federation transfer matching systems chief Ronnie Oyando told Nation Sport: "Were's transfer to Gor was completed very late into the night. The federation presented a special request to FIFA explaining our position and hoping that they consider the late transfer.

"The world federation however wrote back saying that the rules were clear to all the parties involved and authorising the transfer would be tantamount to helping the federation break the law."

It is unclear now whether Were will remain in Nairobi to train with K'Ogalo, or if he will return to AmaZulu to compete in the National First Division until the transfer window reopens at the end of the year.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
