PSL fixtures postponed

Cape Town - The Premier Soccer League has announced the postponement of this weekend’s league fixtures as well as all National First Division matches as a sign of respect following the death of Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa, according to the Soccer Laduma website.

The Soweto derby had already been postponed, and the governing body has now confirmed that all other matches will not go ahead this weekend.

A statement from the PSL read as follows:

"The Premier Soccer League Executive Committee (EXCO) met today in Johannesburg for its monthly meeting.

"A decision was taken to postpone all Absa Premiership and National First Division (NFD) fixtures scheduled for this weekend.

"This was done following discussions between the League, title sponsors Absa, the broadcast partners and other relevant stakeholders regarding the extraordinary circumstances relating to the passing and funeral of the late Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa.

"Meyiwa will be buried at his home town in Durban on Saturday morning. The funeral service will be held at the Moses Mabhida Stadium."
