Cape Town - Maritzburg United goalkeeper Virgil Vries admits he is happy to
be getting game-time with his club, but is refusing to get ahead of
himself in terms of being the first-choice gloveman.
The Team of Choice already have one of South Africa's most talented keepers at the their disposal in Shu-Aib Walters, who has almost a decade worth of top flight experience under his belt.
However, Vries has managed to work his way above Walters in the pecking order at United this season, although the 25-year-old knows only hard work and dedication will keep him there.
"I don’t see myself as the first choice goal keeper, but I rather take things game by game,” he told Maritzburg United's official website.
“I still have areas of my game that I must improve, and so it’s about working hard, giving my all at training, and always being ready if called upon.
“The coach knows that he has two good keepers at his disposal, and he’s shown us that he is willing to give us both a chance. It’s all about what you do with your chance, trying to do your best at all times to hold on to that jersey.
“It’s not so much about pressure though, it’s about going out and enjoying yourself on the field.”
