Vilakazi along with three other big-name players (Dean Furman, Tefu Mashamaite and Mzikayise Mashaba) did not join up with the squad in Durban on Monday.
The 25-year-old star midfielder had picked up a mild ankle injury towards the end of the season in Wits’ 2-1 victory over Chiefs at the FNB Stadium.
He disclosed the details of the extent of the damage as well as his expected injury layoff.
“I never made it to the Bafana camp because I picked up the injury towards the end of the season in the game against Chiefs.
“I sprained two ligaments in my ankle and I went for tests but luckily they didn’t need me to go for an operation but they said I would be out for six week.
“For now I’m in the process of getting back and into pre-season.”
The Chiefs game was on May 6th which means that, if the doctors’ predictions are correct, Vilakazi should be able to either play or train towards the end of next week.
