Cape Town - Bidvest Wits talisman, Sibusiso Vilakazi, believes that Wits and SuperSport United have what it takes to challenge the ‘big three’ of Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns in the upcoming season.
‘Vila’ has recovered from his ankle injury and began training with the Wits squad on Friday, July 3 and feels that the club is ready to make real go at the title for the second season running as they once again look to close the gap at the top of the table.
“So far our target at Wits is to close that gap where you have Chiefs, Sundowns and Pirates as the top three,” he told Sport24.
“But now you have Wits coming into the picture, Supersport coming into the picture as well, so you no longer find those games where you have a sure win for the big teams.
“It is quite difficult now with how things have changed and other teams have started to pump in a lot of money.
“Players want to prove to themselves that they can overcome the bigger teams,” the Wits number 10 concluded.
The 25-year-old is a transfer target for the three bigger teams that he talks about but he continues to stand resolute in his vow to remain at the Clever Boys unless the right European offer comes in.
