Johannesburg - Bidvest Wits skipper Sibusiso Vilakazi has praised his team-mates’ character following their 1-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns.

As it happened: Wits vs Sundowns

The Clever Boys upset the Brazilians at the Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday, courtesy of a well taken strike by Vilakazi after the interval.

The 25-year-old striker, however, hinted that their much desired triumph was a result of team work.

“It was a tough match indeed,” said Vilakazi.

“Credit must be given to my team-mates because I think it was a great team effort.

“We fought together and we also pushed together as a team.

“We also defended so well, although we almost let them in a few times.

“But then again, credit must go to the team for giving us the three points.”

A win for Wits reduced the deficit at the top to seven points, as Kaizer Chiefs are still leading the race and Bafana Bafana forward insisted that they are not setting their sights on catching the Amakhosi yet.

“At this stage we just need to take it one game at a time,” insisted Vilakazi.

“It’s important that we keep pushing together as a team.

“The games are coming thick and fast at this stage which is good for us.

“So the momentum is good for the team as well going forward.”

Wits will face Bloemfontein Celtic in their next assignment at home on Friday.

Kick-off is at 20:00.
