Vermezovic to stay at Chiefs

Johannesburg - Vladimir Vermezovic will remain coach of Kaizer Chiefs and will see out his three-year contract with the club in the next season, Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung confirmed on Wednesday.

"The coach is here to stay and will definitely be with us next season," said Motaung.

He added that the club's top management was satisfied with the work the Serb has done since first taking charge of the outfit in July 2009.

In his early analysis of the season that has seen Amakhosi win just a single trophy - the Telkom Knockout in December - Motaung feels that lack of depth and experience as well as dips in form of players contributed to the side's up and down season.

There is little hope that Chiefs will win the crown while they were also embarrassingly eliminated by Vodacom League side Baroka F.C in the Nedbank Cup.

The team showed too much dependence on star players Siphiwe Tshabalala, Itumeleng Khune, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Knowledge Musona, and struggled if the foursome were absent or in poor form.

"There is progression in our style of play but we have not been consistent," Motaung said.

"Musona lost early season form, Kaizer Motaung Junior got injured, S'thembiso Ngcobo's form dropped so we were always missing rhythm.

"And then there is the issue of experience and composure in front of goal if you look at a talented youngster like Mandla Masang - but he will grow from this.

"In the new season we will be beefing up the squad with some depth and experience."

Chiefs will play their penultimate game against log leaders Ajax Cape Town at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
