Vermezovic grateful to Majoro

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic was grateful to Lehlohonolo Majoro for netting a late equaliser against struggling Jomo Cosmos on Wednesday.

Majoro saved the title contenders' blushes with an 83rd minute goal after Mark Haskins opened the scoring eight minutes earlier at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Vermezovic feels his men nearly paid the full price for wasteful finishing.

"We created lot of chances once more but we did not convert them and we got punished," he told his club's official website. "They got an opportunity to score after we lost possession in the middle of the park. Thanks to Majoro we managed to bounce back in the second half."

The Serbian suspects the recent seven-week break - to accommodate the Africa Cup of Nations - impacted on the quality of the contest.

"In some countries including Serbia it is normal to have two pre-seasons in a season but here it is not the case and maybe players are not used to taking such a long break during a season," he said. "There was no way we were going to change CAF rules though and this situation is the same for every club in the league."

Veremezovic hopes to see a better display in Saturday's Soweto derby with Moroka Swallows, who ousted relegation-wary Santos 3-2 in midweek.

"We need to dust ourselves and continue to fight," said Vermezovic. "We do not have lot of time to relax before our game against Moroka Swallows on Saturday. We will go back to the training ground and work on our mistakes. There is a long way to go and we will continue fighting."

The third-placed Glamour boys are locked with Swallows on 29 points - five behind PSL leaders Sundowns.
