Cape Town – The South African soccer season is just over a month away and soccer enthusiasts can expect minor changes from an officiating point of view.
Peter Sejake, who is the head of referees at SAFA, says that the Absa Premiership along with other lower leagues will use the internationally acclaimed vanishing spray during incidents when it comes to free-kicks.
According to goal.com, 80 FIFA accredited referees are currently attending a week-long workshop to prepare themselves on what needs to be done in such situations for the upcoming season.
Within the workshop, referees are also put to the test when it comes to fitness levels, different laws of the game, diet and eye testing to name a few.
“The officials have really shown that they take their work seriously,” said Sejake.
“This is going to be a defining season for our game.
“I am looking forward to it.”
