Nelspruit - SuperSport United claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win away to
Black Aces in an Absa Premiership match at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
Matsatsantsa scored the only goal of the game early on
through debutant New Zealand striker Jeremy Brockie. The result sees them pick
up their first league victory of 2015, while AmaZayoni’s winless run in the
league has been extended to five matches.
Brockie made his first start for United and it took him just
12 minutes to net a debut goal. The Kiwi beat goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane
with a right-footed shot after an assist by Morne Nel.
Aces looked for a reply in the remainder of the first half
and threatened a goal through the likes of Aubrey Ngoma and Tendai Ndoro, but a
well-marshalled SuperSport backline and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams ensured the
visitors went into the half time break 1-0 up.
The home side made a tactical switch at the start of the
second half, sending on South African U-20 international Maphosa Modiba in
place of Ngoma. The youngster shot just off target in the 56th minute, Aces’
first notable effort of the second stanza.
In the 69th minute Miguel Timm tried his hand with a shot
direct from a free kick after Dove Wome had handled the ball, but the former
Bidvest Wits midfielder’s effort flashed over the top of the crossbar.
That proved to be the last effort of any significance from
AmaZayoni, with United able to hold out and claim all three points. They move
to seventh on the log with 24 points, while Aces are 11th on 22 points.
