United mum on Komphela talk

CAPE TOWN — Maritzburg United opted not to release a statement after reports linked coach Steve Komphela with the Kaizer Chiefs job.

Sport24 reported that following Stuart Baxter’s departure from Chiefs, Komphela is the leading candidate to fill the void.

Komphela’s agent Tim Sukazi confirmed that if Chiefs were looking for a perfect replacement for Baxter then the Maritzburg United coach is the right fit for the head coach role.

Team of Choice’s operations manager Quintin Jettoo revealed that the club will not release a statement regarding the surfaced speculation. “We don’t have anything to say about this because this happens at the end of every season. Last season it was Chippa United,” Jettoo told KickOff.

“This speculation is based on what, one newspaper report, and I don’t want to pre-empt anything.”
