According to KickOff, the permanent job has been in Tinkler’s sights since the departure of Vladimir Vermezovic.
An unnamed source revealed that Dr Irvin Khoza is “very pleased” with how the club has been performing and Tinkler has a chance to make the vacant post his.
“The decision that was taken is that Eric continues as the caretaker coach. The issue of a substantive coach will be dealt with at a later stage,” said Orlando Pirates spokesperson Mickey Modisane.
“The focus right now is to make sure that we finish on the highest position possible on the log at the end of the season and also to make sure that we successfully defend the Nedbank Cup.
“We also want to make sure that we do well in Africa when we take part in the Confederation Cup. This is the focus at the moment,” he adds.
Pirates next task is Free State Stars as they welcome an in-form Sea Robbers for an Absa Premiership clash at Charles Mopeli Stadium on Wednesday, March 4.
Kick-off is at 19:30.
