Tinkler relishing new role

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates interim coach Eric Tinkler said being handed a chance to coach arguably "the best team in the country" is the highlight of his nine-year coaching career.

The hard-tackling former Bafana Bafana midfielder took over the Buccaneers hot seat on an interim basis following the resignation of head coach, Roger de Sa, last Friday.

The former Bidvest Wits mentor handed in his resignation to the Happy People following a poor recent run of results.

Tinkler, alongside De Sa, joined the Soweto giants in September 2012 on a three-year deal.

Speaking to the Daily Sun website, Tinkler said he was honoured to be appointed assistant coach at Pirates and is really looking forward to being in the hot seat and coaching the best team in the country.

He also emphasised that it would not be wise for him to ring the changes, opting to continue with the same squad used by De Sa.

The Buccaneers are currently eighth on the PSL log with five games in hand, trailing log leaders and arch rivals, Kaizer Chiefs, by sixteen points.

Their next encounter is against Wits at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
