The Buccaneers currently trail table-topping Kaizer Chiefs by a massive 20 points and it would be fair to say their chances of closing the gap are slim to none.
However, they are still within touching distance of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who are tied on 31 points with Bidvest Wits.
While finishing the season in second place is at the forefront of Tinkler's thoughts, he was also quick to point out that they are also battling for silverware in two other competitions.
"We still have a lot to play for, we have to defend our Nedbank Cup, and of course we are back into Africa this time with the Confederations Cup so we have to remain calm and focussed for those competitions,” said Tinkler on the clubs official website.
"We must fight for second place because that will automatically put us back into the Champions League. We MUST get to second. We can still save our season."
