Tinkler: Morale is 'very low'

Cape Town - Caretaker coach Eric Tinkler admits Orlando Pirates' morale is "very low" following Saturday's 2-0 Soweto Derby defeat to bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

The Buccaneers' disastrous campaign continued unabated this weekend as goals from Siphiwe Tshabalala and Siphelele Mthembu condemned the side to a fifth loss of the campaign, leaving them ninth in the standings and now 18 points behind leaders Amakhosi.

Things get no easier for the Sea Robbers either as they are next in action against defending Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday, and Tinkler is all too aware of the challenge he faces in reigniting his side's form.

"You can see the morale is still very low," said Tinkler, who was handed the interim reins following Vladimir Vermezovic's departure as head coach in midweek.

"We'll have to go back and build again for a big game on Wednesday.

“It's important that we try and change our fortunes leading up to the Sundowns game."

Kick-off for the Pirates and Sundowns game is at 19:30.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
