Cape Town - Following the MTN8 semi-final draw, Orlando Pirates assistant coach, Eric Tinkler is hoping history can repeat itself when they take on Bidvest Wits.
The Buccaneers beat Wits in the Nedbank Cup final in May this year when Kermit Erasmus scored a brace as the Happy People came from behind to beat the Students 3-1 in the final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in May.
“It will be tough, they are a good team, very competitive,” said Tinkler at the draw via their official Twitter handle.
“It’s a repeat of the Nedbank Cup game and hopefully the result will be the same. They have strengthened as well so it will be very different, but we look forward to a great game.”
Wits captain, Sibusiso Vilakazi, was full of praise for Pirates' display against SuperSport United and knows that the Clever Boys will have to go all out in the first leg at home in order to have the advantage over the Sowetan giants.
“Pirates are a great team, we saw they scored goals and were looking good vs SuperSport United so we have to be careful,” said Vilakazi.
“It will be a tough game. We play at home 1st so we need to do well to set up for the 2nd leg.”
The semi-final round is a home and away leg format and will be played on the weekends of August 16/17 and August 23/24.
The MTN8 times and venues are still to be released at a later stage.
