Tense encounter for Swallows

Cape Town - Moroka Swallows will continue their fight for Absa Premiership survival when they host Maritzburg United at Dobsonville Stadium.

Swallows played to a second successive 1-1 draw in the league when they were held 1-1 away to University of Pretoria in midweek.

The Soweto side has claimed 11 points from 13 home matches this season.

Their remaining league opponents are Ajax Cape Town (away) and Bloemfontein Celtic (home).

The Birds are placed 16th on the Absa Premiership log with 24 points from 27 matches.

Maritzburg recorded a second successive 1-0 win in the league when they defeated Ajax Cape Town at home in midweek.

The KwaZulu-Natal team has claimed 16 points from 13 away matches this season.

Their remaining league opponents are Orlando Pirates (home) and AmaZulu (away).

The Team of Choice is placed seventh on the Absa Premiership log with 36 points from 27 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Swallows and Maritzburg have met in 17 league matches since 2005/06.

The Birds have claimed eight wins compared to four for the Team of Choice, while five matches have been drawn.

Swallows have won four of their eight home matches against Maritzburg, suffering just one defeat in the process.

When the teams met earlier this season, the Birds claimed a 2-1 away win in Pietermaritzburg thanks to a brace from Nomvethe.

Kick-off is at 17:00 on Friday, May 1.
