Tefu plays full game for NYCFC

Cape Town - PSL Player of the Season Tefu Mashamaite played the full 90 minutes as New York City FC beat Clarkstown SC Eagles 4-0 in a friendly on Thursday.

Mashamaite, who left champions Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the season after the two parties failed to agree on new terms, is currently being assessed by the MLS club.

If successful he would be joining the likes of Frank Lampard and Andrea Pirlo at the New York franchise, that is affiliated with Manchester City in England.

@NYCFCWatch reported that the 30-year-old central defender played the entire game as he helped New York keep a clean sheet in the behind-closed-doors training game.

Mashamaite will hope to have done enough to convince the club to offer him a deal.

Last season, Mashamaite was a constant fixture for the Amakhosi, playing in all 30 league games, and was also captain as Chiefs went on to win the league and Cup double.

Mashamaite spent four seasons at Chiefs, though hardly featured in his first year at the club. However when Stuart Baxter joined the club, Mashamaite became a first choice player, and won two league titles with Chiefs in three years.

Before joining Chiefs, the Bafana Bafana international was captain of Bidvest Wits. It was during his time at Wits that he got first international cap.
