‘Tefu deserves top PSL accolade’

Johannesburg - Former Kaizer Chiefs and Ajax Cape Town defender Nhlanhla Kubheka is backing Amakhosi skipper Tefu Mashamaite for the 2014/15 Absa Premiership Player of the Season accolade.

Chiefs were again rock-solid in defence in this season’s Absa Premiership, having conceded only 12 goals throughout the campaign thus far.

Kubheka, 36, believes that the Bochum-born sweeper was consistent for the last three seasons and also played a significant role in guiding Amakhosi to their fourth PSL crown.

“Allow me to be biased on this one, I think Tefu Mashamaite deserves this accolade,” said Kubheka.

“He has been consistent for the past three seasons and coming all the way from the back, he was scoring crucial goals for Chiefs this season.

“He was solid at the back throughout the entire season.

“Look at their defensive record this season; he also played a crucial part in maintaining that.

“I’m not backing him because I was also a defender, but if you look at our strike rate, the highest scorer only scores around 10 or 11 in a season.

“So now, let us give all the credit to Tefu Mashamaite, he deserves it.”
