SuperSport eye Ajax scalp

Cape Town - SuperSport United winger David Mathebula says his team-mates are looking forward to bounce back from the weekend’s Telkom Knockout defeat when they take on Ajax Cape Town at home.

Matsatsantsa and the Urban Warriors will lock horns in an Absa Premiership clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria on Tuesday night.

SuperSport are coming off a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates in the semi-finals of the R4.25m tournament but are keen to shrug off the disappointment.

“DVD” said they want to continue where they left off in their last league match against Golden Arrows.

Cavin Johnson’s men defeated Abafana Besthende 3-1 thanks to goals from  Mathebula, Bradley Grobler and Bennett Chenene.

In an interview with the Soccer-Laduma website, Mathebula said they always look for the three points when playing in the league and Tuesday’s game will be no exception.

The former Kaizer Chiefs man also said they will not underestimate their opponents, as they are playing good football despite their poor recent run.

He said while Ajax boast a number of promising young players, home ground advantage should count in SuperSport’s favour.

Meanwhile, Ajax are also coming off a 3-1 loss to Moroka Swallows after Zeca Marques’ men humbled Muhsin Ertugral’s charges at the Cape Town Stadium last Friday.

Goals for the Dube Birds came from Edward Mangqele, Lerato Chabangu and veteran striker Siyabonga Nomvethe, while Keagan Dolly’s consolation goal was not enough for the home side on the night.

Kick-off for this encounter is scheduled for 19:30.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
