SuperSport down Tuks in derby

Pretoria - SuperSport United beat cross-town rivals AmaTuks 1-0 in the Tshwane derby thanks to Mogogi Gabonamong’s 76th minute strike at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday night.

The PSL game started off cagey with both teams trying to find a way through the defences.

Tuks created the first chance of the match through Aubrey Ngoma in the 22nd minute. The dynamic winger burst down the left flank but his shot was comfortably saved by Williams.

Thokozani Sekotlong had a brilliant chance to put his side in the lead five minutes before the break.

Williams had found himself in no man’s land after clearing a ball and was nearly caught out by a quick throw-in from Ngoma. Sekotlong though couldn’t manage to lob the stranded Matsatsantsa 'keeper.

The first half ended goalless with both teams struggling to pierce the opposition’s defensive line.

SuperSport United came out the stronger side at the break as they looked to secure victory.

Tuks though created the first real chance of the second stanza in the 67th minute.

A ball into the box found an unmarked Ngoma, but the midfielder failed to beat a rushing Williams.

Gabonamong opened the scoring for SuperSport in the 76th minute.

Erasmus’s free-kick found the head of Gabonamong and the Botswana midfielder made no mistake, heading in from close range to give his side the lead.

Warren Bishop nearly denied SuperSport the three points in the final minute of the game but the defender’s header was saved by Williams.

The defeat for Tuks meant that the Tshwane side extend their winless streak to six games.

Matsatsantsa, on the other hand, claimed only their fourth victory of the campaign.
